Create Text Reflection in Paint.NET

Create Text Reflection in Paint.NET
Here is a tutorial on how to make a text reflection effect in Paint.NET. To get good result, you should avoid using letters such as j or y because the letter protrudes downward. Or you can outsmart by write text using capital letters. To give reflection effect, we will use the Gradient Tool. To create text reflection, we can duplicate the text layer and then rotate it using Vertical Flip. We apply the gradient to the text reflection.

Steps to make a text refelction in Paint.NET:

1. Create a new document then create a new layer
Create a new document in Paint.NET by choosing File>New. Then choose Layers> Add New Layer.

2. Type the text in document
Click the Text icon in the Toolbox, set the font type and font size on the options bar. Select the font color in the Colors panel.

Click the mouse on the document and then write your text.

3. Adjust the text's position
Click the Move Selected Pixels icon and then click on the text and drag to position it on the document.

4. Duplicate the text's layer then flip it vertically
Choose Layers> Duplicate Layers. To make our work easier, change its name to reflection. Rotate reflection by choosing Layers> Flip Vertical. Adjust its position using the Move Selected Pixels.

5. Create text's selection on reflection
Click the Magic Wand icon in the Toolbox. Choose Global for Flood Mode on the options bar. Set Tolerance to 50%.

Then click on one of the letters on the reflection to make a selection. Now the text on the reflection layer has been selected. Create a new layer by choosing Layers> Add New Layer, name it ReflectionGradient and then uncheck the reflection.

6. Choose a color for gradient
In the Colors pane, click the More button and then on the drop-down select Primary colors. Slide the slider S to the left. The goal is to obtain a lighter color than the color of the font.

Then select Secondary on the drop down menu and drag the Transparency slider - Alpha to the left in order to obtain a transparent color.

7. Grab the gradient tool
Click the gradient icon on the toolbox. Click on the text and then drag it down to give the effect of reflection. Press Enter to apply the gradient then remove the selection by choosing Edit> Deselect.

8. Adjust the ReflectionGradient's opacity
Double click on ReflectionGradient to display its Properties and set the opacity.
